We're looking for the software engineer to build the CAD automations that power that workflow. You'll write custom features in and around Onshape (FeatureScript and API driven), and back them with real engineering practices, so the tools you ship run reliably in production and take repeated manual work off the team's plate. Your work sits downstream of architectural design and feeds our CAD-to-fab pipeline all the way to the factory floor., Prior knowledge or experience in architecture or construction is not required. We'll get you up to speed. Must Have * BS in computer science or electrical engineering, or equivalent experience. * 2+ years of general software engineering experience, ideally in Go, Python, C#, including automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and alerting, debugging and root cause analysis. * Hands-on experience with parametric design (Onshape, Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks, etc.) and building custom features/plugins/extensions in that platform. Experience outside of work is great! * Experience using coding agents to build prototypes, work with others, and get to a solution quickly. A 0-to-1 builder. Nice to Have * Experience with Onshape and building custom features in Onshape with FeatureScript, used in a production setting. * Experience with the Onshape API or building integrations and apps beyond FeatureScript. * Experience in a manufacturing, DFMA, or a hardware product setting. * Familiarity with CAD-to-fabrication workflows (CAM, CNC)., If you believe you have the skills to thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply-even if you don't meet 100% of the listed requirements. At this time, we are only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future visa sponsorship. ## Description This is a hands-on role. The best candidate is a software engineer who enjoys living in CAD and learning new domains. You're comfortable using coding agents and modern AI tooling to prototype fast, work closely with the team, and ship something people actually use day to day rather than a demo that never leaves the shelf., * Design, develop, and maintain custom Onshape features in FeatureScript that run in production and hold up to daily use. * Augment Onshape workflows by building out tooling and integrating with systems outside of Onshape via Onshape APIs. * Expanding the capabilities and uses (skills) of our modeling MCP built on top of Onshape APIs * Work with the design engineering team to find repeated manual work, prototype a solution, and get it into their daily workflow. * Build automation that integrates MEP constraints and augments device and fixture placement. * Build automated code-compliance checking, e.g. outlet placement, egress, tempered windows requirements. * Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to raise efficiency and throughput across design and manufacturing. ## Related Videos - [More efficient software for more efficient microchips](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1164-more-efficient-software-for-more-efficient-microchips) - [XR Demystified: Separating Facts from Fiction in 2024](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1117-xr-demystified-separating-facts-from-fiction-in-2024) - [The perfect CI/CD React Native pipeline with Fastlane](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/556-the-perfect-ci-cd-react-native-pipeline-with-fastlane) - [Go with the Flow: Stop the Leaks Before Your Memory's a Waterfall!](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100073-go-with-the-flow-stop-the-leaks-before-your-memory-s-a-waterfall) - [Google Gemma and Open Source AI Models - Clement Farabet](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1354-google-gemma-and-open-source-ai-models-clement-farabet) - [Give your build some love, it will give it back!](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/514-give-your-build-some-love-it-will-give-it-back) ## Related Articles - [Software Engineer Career: Things You Should Know](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/143-software-engineer-career-things-you-should-know) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [Now is the time for industrialized software development](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/601-now-is-the-time-for-industrialized-software-development) - [How to Answer the Interview Question: “Why Do You Want to Be a Software Engineer?”](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/392-how-to-answer-the-interview-question-why-do-you-want-to-be-a-software-engineer) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated)
