## About the Role

* You have 3+ years of experience building backend applications
 * You have solid experience with Python
 * You can optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own
 * You're a strong advocate for automated testing
 * You're familiar with engineering best practices and eager to deepen them
 * You're user-centric, empathetic, and passionate about your work

Nice to have

 * Experience with Django (not required, but a big plus)
 * Startup experience (not required, but we build and move fast!)

## Description

We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our Core Product Engineering team, which powers the document workflows millions of people rely on every day: viewing, editing, embedding, and exporting content, along with the integrations that connect Scribe to the rest of a customer's stack. You'll ship well-scoped backend work across these core systems, building technical judgment alongside an experienced team while contributing to both existing product surfaces and new, greenfield projects., * Build and ship backend features in our Django monolith, spanning core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield projects that expand what Scribe can do

 * Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers in well-scoped areas
 * Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive and reliable experiences at scale
 * Incorporate feedback from teammates to continuously grow your craft
 * Write thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and pay attention to observability and performance in your work
