The System Software turns our devices into products: it runs onboard, brings up the platform, orchestrates the sensors, runs the mapping stack in real time, and gives the operator a UI to control the capture. Every scan a customer delivers starts on the device. The System Software team owns the on-device software stack across the product line, including NavVis VLX System Software, NavVis MLX System Software, and the variants that follow; the team's deliverable is a working device and a great mapping experience. We are looking for a Team Lead for the System Software team in the Mapping and Perception (MAP) department. The role spans the full on-device stack, from the mapping UI and Python backend down to the OS and platform layer directly above the kernel, and sits between software and physical devices: your team integrates upstream work from other teams, and you work closely with the hardware teams to turn hardware into a shippable product. You own one of the most consequential cross-team boundaries in the department, combining technical direction with people leadership. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT * Deliver the software and user experience across the full stack, from multi-language UI and real-time scan visualization to application-level UI development (Angular, Python backend, application-level ROS nodes) and the Linux platform * Lead, mentor, and grow the System Software team across its two squads: set technical direction, coach through regular 1:1s, and drive career development and team performance together with the department lead * Ensure strong communication and collaboration within and across teams and departments * Shape product direction: work toward product goals with other teams and adapt the System Software as new sensors, form factors, compute platforms, and cross-product features emerge * Own software readiness for production launches: define technical direction and align milestones and roadmaps with product management and other teams, from early prototypes to production-ready releases * Define team boundaries and shape the hardware and software handover: establish handover conventions per subsystem, including workflows, interface contracts, and best practices * Drive reliability, data quality, and scalability of the System Software, including provisioning and update mechanisms that scale with production volumes, and own the team's internal infrastructure (CI pipelines, hardware-in-the-loop tests, stress tests) to catch regressions early and keep quality measurable * Uphold engineering quality through the development workflow, release, QA, and code-review processes, contributing hands-on where it matters, and drive AI adoption while balancing speed and quality ## Related Videos - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [Lessons learned from building a thriving Vue.js SaaS application](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1666-lessons-learned-from-building-a-thriving-vue-js-saas-application) - [Software defines the vehicle: Why customers and developers will love cars even more](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1114-software-defines-the-vehicle-why-customers-and-developers-will-love-cars-even-more) - [Navigating the Corporate Jungle: Life as a Developer in a large Company](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/621-navigating-the-corporate-jungle-life-as-a-developer-in-a-large-company) - [Docker exec without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1094-docker-exec-without-docker) - [Agile work at CARIAD – Creating a customer web application for controlling the vehicle ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/200-agile-work-at-cariad-creating-a-customer-web-application-for-controlling-the-vehicle) ## Related Articles - [How software is steering vehicle technology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/515-how-software-is-steering-vehicle-technology) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [What’s the Difference between a Junior, Mid, and Senior Developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/238-what-s-the-difference-between-a-junior-mid-and-senior-developer) - [The Ultimate Software Engineer Career Path Guide for 2023](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/146-the-ultimate-software-engineer-career-path-guide-for-2023) - [Résumé-Driven Development: How IT trends affect the job market for software developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/59-resume-driven-development-how-it-trends-affect-the-job-market-for-software-developers) - [The 12 Best Jobs for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/401-the-12-best-jobs-for-software-engineers)
