We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a sustainable bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society, policymakers, industry and other stakeholders - knowledge-driven and application-inspired. Within the EU-funded research project "MEDSoil+: Excellence in Mediterranean Soil Regeneration", the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) of the University of Évora (UE, Portugal) will be positioned as the first fully accredited soil lab infrastructure in Portugal capable of generating high-quality, standardised and interoperable soil monitoring data, by training, co-designing innovation, demonstrating and disseminating breakthrough knowledge through Living Labs (LL). The ATB will accompany and consult this process and will be particularly responsible for establishing proximal & remote sensing and IoT solutions for connected soil health mapping and monitoring.
