This position performs utility locating activities in compliance with Virginia 811 requirements, interprets utility records and construction documents, and uses specialized equipment to identify and mark underground telecommunications facilities. The technician supports construction, maintenance, and damage prevention efforts by responding to locate requests, emergency calls, and field investigations while ensuring all work complies with applicable safety standards, regulations, and response requirements., This position requires the ability to learn skills needed to read and interpret floor plans, utility maps, GIS data, as-built drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to determine work requirements and facility locations. The candidate installs, troubleshoots, tests, and maintains telecommunications cabling and equipment; accurately documents completed work; and ensures proper labeling of cables and infrastructure components. The position requires a commitment to representing James Madison University professionally when interacting with campus customers, contractors, and external partners.
