This role is a key part of the organization's technology strategy and supports the design, development, and delivery of scalable platform capabilities that enable engineering teams across the enterprise to build and deploy microservices at scale. Enterprise Architecture plays a critical role in shaping the company's technology direction through four core pillars: Architecture as Code, Architecture as Design, Governance, and Colleague Enablement. The One Data platform team is focused on building foundational technologies that empower teams across American Express to deliver modern, resilient, and high-performing software solutions. Responsibilities * Design, develop, and deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions across the full stack using Java and Python for enterprise-grade platform services and applications. * Lead the architecture and implementation of distributed systems with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence. * Own end-to-end delivery of features, from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and production support. * Act as a senior technical contributor in an Agile environment, guiding best practices in software engineering, testing, documentation, and continuous delivery. * Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities. * Collaborate closely with architects, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. * Build and evolve RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems with strong service contracts and backward compatibility. * Improve CI/CD pipelines, automate testing, and enhance developer productivity through modern engineering practices. * Identify bottlenecks, debug complex production issues, and perform root-cause analysis to drive long-term fixes. * Design systems with a focus on scalability, resilience, observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting. * Contribute to cloud-native transformation initiatives, including containerization, infrastructure as code, and auto-scaling architectures. * Influence technical direction by challenging assumptions and proposing innovative, pragmatic solutions. * Take accountability for delivering high-impact outcomes aligned with team and organizational goals., We back our colleagues with the support they need to thrive, professionally and personally.
