## About the Role

n* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.\n
\n* Experience supporting IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS operations, performance analysis, or capacity planning.\n
\n* Working knowledge of mainframe performance and accounting data sources such as RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, or MXG.\n
\n* Experience using SAS or similar analytical tools to manipulate data, create reports, and perform trend analysis.\n
\n* Understanding of z/OS architecture, workload management concepts, and core system utilities including SDSF and TSO/E.\n
\n* Knowledge of incident, problem, and change management disciplines in an enterprise technology environment.\n
\n* Experience supporting or coordinating mainframe hardware activities, including maintenance, vendor engagement, or device-related changes.\n
\n* Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.\n
\n
\nPreferred Qualifications\n
\n* Experience with Mainview, Systemware, Strobe, and related mainframe monitoring or performance tools.\n
\n* Knowledge of coupling facility structures, XCF reporting, LPAR configuration management, and channel architecture.\n
\n* Experience with ServiceNow, Endevor, JIRA, or similar enterprise workflow and change management platforms.\n

\nAs an Infrastructure Configuration Consultant within PNC's Technology organization, you can be based in Pittsburgh PA, Strongsville/Cleveland OH, Birmingham AL, Phoenix AZ, Dallas TX or Denver CO. \n
\n

\nThe Mainframe Capacity and Performance Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing mainframe system performance, capacity, and resource utilization across the enterprise environment. This role supports operational stability and strategic planning by producing performance reporting, identifying trends, recommending improvements, and partnering with infrastructure, engineering, and operations teams to maintain efficient and reliable mainframe services. The position also includes mainframe hardware support activities, including coordination of maintenance, code currency, and device implementation with internal teams and external vendors.\n
\n
\nKey Responsibilities\n
\n* Analyze mainframe capacity, utilization, and performance trends using RMF, SMF, CA-MICS, MXG, SAS, Mainview, Systemware, and related reporting tools.\n
\n* Produce and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc performance and capacity reports to support operational decision-making and long-range planning.\n
\n* Interpret system data to identify bottlenecks, performance issues, and optimization opportunities involving CPU, memory, disk I/O, workload management, and coupling facility activity.\n
\n* Support workload analysis and tuning across z/OS environments, including WLM service classes, initiators, application environments, and job flow behavior.\n
\n* Review and maintain knowledge of LPAR configurations, processor capacity, memory constraints, channel configurations, and overall system architecture.\n
\n* Provide mainframe hardware support by coordinating with vendors and internal teams on microcode installation, hardware fixes, new device implementation, and maintaining current code levels on hardware management consoles.\n
\n* Assist with incident, problem, and change management activities through established IT service management processes, including ServiceNow and enterprise change procedures.\n
\n* Support software and configuration changes through established controls and deployment processes, including Endevor procedures and change governance standards.\n
\n* Use diagnostic and monitoring tools such as Strobe, Syslog, OPSLOG, SDSF, and TSO/E utilities to investigate system behavior, troubleshoot issues, and support root cause analysis.\n
\n* Collaborate with infrastructure, engineering, operations, and project teams to support service reliability, capacity planning, and mainframe modernization or expansion initiatives.\n
\n* Maintain familiarity with enterprise standards, reporting repositories, project tracking tools, and technical documentation sources required for the role.\n
