Equivalent combinations of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered. * 5+ years of professional experience in cybersecurity, information security, risk management, security governance, compliance, security program support, or related disciplines. * Experience supporting or applying cybersecurity frameworks, standards, or guidance, including NIST-based security practices. * Experience working in a leadership, consultative, or cross-functional role involving security stakeholders and business/technical teams., * Understanding of cybersecurity governance, risk management, and security planning. * Experience building collaborative relationships across business, technical, and leadership stakeholder groups. * Ability to communicate security risks, priorities, and recommendations to varied audiences. * Experience supporting incident coordination, security planning initiatives, or enterprise cybersecurity programs. * Experience with regulatory compliance and security policy implementation. * Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills. * Preferred Competencies * Relationship Management: Builds trusted relationships across technical teams, leadership groups, vendors, and business stakeholders. * Risk Awareness: Recognizes operational and security concerns, evaluates potential impacts, and supports risk-based decision-making. * Security Framework Knowledge: Familiarity with cybersecurity standards, regulatory expectations, and NIST-aligned security practices. * Consultative Approach: Comfortable advising stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and helping teams navigate security planning and incident-related matters. * Executive Communication: Able to present technical and security information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. * Prioritization: Able to balance competing priorities, manage sensitive situations, and work effectively in a dynamic environment. This position will serve as a trusted security advisor, providing strategic and operational support in cybersecurity engagement, risk management, security planning, incident response, and enterprise security initiatives. This is a remote position - however candidates must live in Eastern Time Zone and, if they live in Maine, must be able to commute to Augusta, ME, twice / month. Please note: No C2C, Subcontracting or Visa Sponsorship of any kind is available for this position. The Information Security Officer will work closely with agency leadership, technical teams, security stakeholders, vendors, and enterprise IT teams to identify risks, strengthen security practices, coordinate cybersecurity activities, and support statewide security priorities.
