We are looking for a creative problem solver with sharp engineering skills who can thrive on projects where minimal instruction and direction is provided to achieve desired results. This role reports to the Technical Show Production Lead, and will take on effects design and fabrication work that has a direct impact on projects with high-profile clients. You will perform a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of special effects and illusions for various attractions and immersive experiences as required. The Design Engineer will gain hands-on experience across the full life of an effect and sharpen their craft as both a designer and an engineer., Design and engineer integrated show technical specialty elements, including special effects, illusions, show action equipment, animated figures, and interactive elements, across the full life of a project, from initial concept through installation, programming, and turnover to operations. Work within an assigned budget and schedule, flagging risks and communicating trade-offs proactively rather than after the fact. Create, maintain, and communicate the facility interface data (power, structural, mounting, controls, and other requirements) that other disciplines depend on to properly plan around each element. Coordinate closely with show set, ride, media, and controls engineering to keep specialty elements properly integrated as the design evolves. Produce fabrication-ready drawings and models, in Fusion, that fabricators and other disciplines can build from without guesswork. Program, tune, and cue each element's control systems on-site so it runs correctly and in sync with the rest of the show. Troubleshoot and resolve problems in the field, often under a tight schedule and with limited resources. Document each finished element clearly and hand it off to operations with what they need to maintain it long-term. Build every element to be safe, reliable, and low-maintenance under continuous daily operation. ## Related Videos - [WeAreDevelopers LIVE - CSS is DOOMed](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1851-wearedevelopers-live-css-is-doomed) - [IoT: The road to sustainability](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/557-iot-the-road-to-sustainability) - [Building a hypercar from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/607-building-a-hypercar-from-scratch) - [Building your way to a serverless powered IOT Buzzwire game](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/590-building-your-way-to-a-serverless-powered-iot-buzzwire-game) - [The Software Engineer 2030: From Coder To AI Orchestrator? - Patrick Schnell](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1825-the-software-engineer-2030-from-coder-to-ai-orchestrator-patrick-schnell) - [Prototyping with Hardware and the Web](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/651-prototyping-with-hardware-and-the-web) ## Related Articles - [How Engineering Hubs Build Visibility at Developer Conferences like WeAreDevelopers World Congress](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/720-how-engineering-hubs-build-visibility-at-developer-conferences-like-wearedevelopers-world-congress) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer) - [What Makes WeAreDevelopers World Congress Different From Every Other Tech Event?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/701-what-makes-wearedevelopers-world-congress-different-from-every-other-tech-event) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline)
