Your focus will be on the systems players interact with directly: character movement, traversal, shooting, animation integration, and networked gameplay. Movement is central to our competitive experience. We need someone who understands how responsiveness, consistency, and network performance affect gameplay, and who has hands-on experience delivering those systems in production. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant technical ownership. What You'll Work On * Character Controller: Build responsive, predictable, network-authoritative movement that remains reliable under latency. * Traversal and Parkour: Implement climbing, vaulting, mantling, and sliding while maintaining readability and competitive fairness. * Shooting and Combat: Develop weapon systems, hit registration, recoil, spread, client-side prediction, and server reconciliation. * Animation Integration: Collaborate with animation to implement state machines, blending, and locomotion systems that support responsive gameplay. * Multiplayer Architecture: Handle replication, prediction, rollback considerations, and anti-cheat requirements across gameplay systems. * Technical Foundations: Help define the early architecture of our gameplay systems and build maintainable solutions that can evolve throughout production. ## Related Videos - [WeAreDevelopers LIVE - "Fun and games - and all that comes with it", Back to BASIC & more](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1719-wearedevelopers-live-fun-and-games-and-all-that-comes-with-it-back-to-basic-more) - [Level Up with Python: Building a Shooter Game Live with PyGame](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1681-level-up-with-python-building-a-shooter-game-live-with-pygame) - [Creating bots with Dialogflow CX](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/587-creating-bots-with-dialogflow-cx) - [Live Coding an Augmented Reality Game with WebXR](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/199-live-coding-an-augmented-reality-game-with-webxr) - [The Future Past of Technology - A Game Developers POV](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1386-the-future-past-of-technology-a-game-developers-pov) - [WeAreDevelopers LIVE - CSS is DOOMed](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1838-wearedevelopers-live-css-is-doomed) ## Related Articles - [10 Coding Games to Teach You How to Code](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/151-10-coding-games-to-teach-you-how-to-code) - [What Developers Can Learn from Indie Games](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/650-what-developers-can-learn-from-indie-games) - [John Romero - What AI Can, Can’t, and Shouldn’t do for Games](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/478-john-romero-what-ai-can-can-t-and-shouldn-t-do-for-games) - [Find a Developer Job: 12 Best Job Sites For Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/165-find-a-developer-job-12-best-job-sites-for-developers) - [The 12 Best Jobs for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/401-the-12-best-jobs-for-software-engineers) - [How to Tell if Something Was Written by ChatGPT](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/314-how-to-tell-if-something-was-written-by-chatgpt)
