## Description

The Department of Physics seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) beginning August 2027 to develop a nationally-recognized externally-funded research program; to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in physics; and to provide service to the institution. Candidates with expertise in quantum computing are preferred. Current faculty research in QIST includes quantum optics, cold atom physics, molecular spectroscopy, topologically-protected magnetic materials, and quantum information theory. This search seeks candidates who will bolster collaborative potential in these areas, while also establishing new directions of research.

This search is part of a large university-wide investment in QIST initiatives with new degree programs, the establishment of a quantum institute, faculty cluster hires, and strengthening of national partnerships. The Department has an established reputation for excellence in undergraduate education and research mentoring, a strong residential master's degree program, and is a member of national QIST collaboratives. The Department is on an increasing research trajectory and is a member of newly established doctoral programs in engineering and computer science. We seek candidates who will provide exceptional research mentoring to students at all levels (undergraduate, MS, and PhD), and will complement and contribute to the mission and strengths of the Department.
