You will lead key projects from concept through to production, drive backend architecture decisions across high availability, cloud native infrastructure and mentor the engineers around you. The work spans distributed systems, scalability challenges, observability and major platform initiatives - the kind of problems that build a career. What sets this role apart is the quality of the engineering bar. The hiring manager is not looking for a CV that ticks boxes. He is looking for engineers who can go deep - who can pick a complex project from their background and explain exactly what they built, why they made the architectural decisions they did, what trade-offs they navigated and what impact their work had. If that is how you think about your work, you will feel at home here immediately. AI usage in engineering workflows is also important here. The team uses AI tooling heavily day to day - tools like Copilot, Cursor and Codex are embedded in how engineers work. You do not need to have built AI models, but you should be using AI actively in your development workflow and be able to talk about how it improves your output. The tech is Go and Java across backend services, GCP cloud infrastructure, Docker and Kubernetes, high availability distributed systems design and modern CI and CD pipelines., If you are a strong Java or Go engineer who can go deep on your work and is ready for a role that will genuinely challenge and reward you, please reach out to Nick Napier directly on LinkedIn or submit your CV via the link below. ## Related Videos - [API Design - Getting Started](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/33-api-design-getting-started) - [Developing the Backend with Stefan Lingler, CTO at Shpock](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100360-developing-the-backend-with-stefan-lingler-cto-at-shpock) - [Shipping Faster with Less: Render on Cloud Hosting, AI Workloads, and the Future of DevOps](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1894-shipping-faster-with-less-render-on-cloud-hosting-ai-workloads-and-the-future-of-devops) - [Docker Compose: Rediscovered](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1978-docker-compose-rediscovered) - [Rest API Antipatterns](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100208-rest-api-antipatterns) - [Meet Your New BFF: Backend to Frontend without the Duct Tape](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/682-meet-your-new-bff-backend-to-frontend-without-the-duct-tape) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [20 Essential Tools For Backend Development](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/218-20-essential-tools-for-backend-development) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [What’s the Difference Between Frontend and Backend Development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/240-what-s-the-difference-between-frontend-and-backend-development) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers)
