Fachinformatiker/innen der Fachrichtung Systemintegration arbeiten mit Computern, Servern, sowie Tools und Plattformen zur Kontrolle des Datentransfers. In erster Linie sind sie in Büroräumen am Bildschirmarbeitsplatz tätig. Sie müssen sich flexibel auf wechselnde Arbeitsorte und Arbeitsbedingungen einstellen.

Die Arbeit der Fachinformatiker/innen der Fachrichtung Systemintegration erfordert technisches Verständnis und abstrakt-logisches Denken, wenn z.B. die Anforderungen an IT-Systeme zu analysieren sind. Die Suche nach Programmfehlern erfordert Ausdauer und Durchhaltevermögen. Bei der individuellen Planung von IT-Systemen, in der Beratung und im IT-Support, sind Kunden- und Serviceorientierung gefragt, z.B. im Hinblick auf die IT-Sicherheit und den Datenschutz. Die Integration von Hard- und Softwarekomponenten in individuell modellierte IT-Systeme setzt Kreativität voraus. Fachinformatiker/innen der Fachrichtung Systemintegration gehen bei der Installation verschiedener Anwendungen sehr sorgfältig vor. Für den Einbau von Hardwarekomponenten brauchen sie Handgeschick. Sie sind immer über die neuen technischen Entwicklungen informiert.
