## About the Role

You should have:

 * 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience
 * Strong recent TypeScript / Node.js experience
 * Production experience with NestJS or a comparable backend framework
 * Strong relational database experience
 * Experience changing and migrating production databases
 * Experience building systems involving user accounts, authentication or payments
 * Experience writing your own automated tests
 * Strong understanding of authentication, authorisation and data separation
 * Experience working within established engineering conventions
 * Ability to work independently inside an existing architecture
 * A GitHub profile or code sample you can discuss in detail

We're looking for someone who takes ownership rather than simply completes tickets.

AI-Assisted Development

Using Cursor, Copilot, Claude or similar tools is absolutely fine.

However, you must understand, explain, test and debug the code you ship. AI should accelerate your engineering ability, not replace it.

## Description

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Backend Engineer to join our existing engineering team and take significant ownership of the backend through launch and beyond.

This is an existing product and codebase, not a greenfield concept.

You will work alongside our Head of Engineering, but we're looking for someone who can independently investigate problems, make technical decisions and own work through to production without requiring every task to be broken down step by step.

Core Stack

You should have strong commercial experience with:

 * NestJS
 * Node.js
 * TypeScript
 * PostgreSQL
 * Prisma ORM or similar
 * REST APIs
 * Authentication and authorisation
 * JWT / OAuth and RBAC
 * Database design and migrations
 * Git / GitHub
 * Docker and CI/CD

Experience with payments, SaaS or marketplace platforms, Nx, cloud infrastructure and Next.js is advantageous.

What You'll Own

You'll take responsibility for launch-critical backend development including:

 * NestJS services and backend architecture
 * PostgreSQL schemas and migrations
 * Prisma models and queries
 * APIs and third-party integrations
 * Authentication, permissions and data security
 * Backend business logic
 * Testing and reliability
 * Debugging and production issues
 * Code quality and technical improvements

We need someone capable of taking a requirement from problem * solution * implementation * testing * production.
