You work across organisational boundaries - the source systems are usually somebody else's - so you ask precise questions and you are easy to say yes to * Strong architecture capability for data platforms - ingestion, storage and scheduling designed to be understood and changed by someone else, with the trade-offs written down rather than implied * Deep data engineering - ETL and ELT, orchestration and scheduling, with SQL you are genuinely fluent in and real experience of streaming as well as batch. With it the judgement that only comes from having been burned: idempotency and replay, schema drift, and what a backfill actually costs. The tooling matters less than the depth * Experience working agentically with AI - not curiosity about it, but a way of working you already have, and opinions about where it breaks down * Complex data-model design, across SQL and NoSQL, with data contracts and schema versioning - and the discipline to treat a contract as a promise * A real feel for data quality - staleness, completeness, silent drift. The curiosity to ask why a fifth of the records are missing a field everyone assumed was always populated, instead of filtering them out, and the honesty to say "we cannot conclude that from this data yet" * Living in the Randstad and comfortable with occasional travel to customer sites. The work runs on English; Dutch is welcome, not required ## Related Videos - [Leveraging Real time data in FSIs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/806-leveraging-real-time-data-in-fsis) - [From Messy Queries to Scalable Systems - How Data Engineering actually works](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100203-from-messy-queries-to-scalable-systems-how-data-engineering-actually-works) - [Python-Based Data Streaming Pipelines Within Minutes](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1233-python-based-data-streaming-pipelines-within-minutes) - [Fault Tolerance and Consistency at Scale: Harnessing the Power of Distributed SQL Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1146-fault-tolerance-and-consistency-at-scale-harnessing-the-power-of-distributed-sql-databases) - [TiDB, One Layer at a Time: How Distributed SQL Became an Agentic AI Backbone](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100117-tidb-one-layer-at-a-time-how-distributed-sql-became-an-agentic-ai-backbone) - [Tomorrow's cloud data platforms - fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/254-tomorrow-s-cloud-data-platforms-fully-managed-database-as-a-service-dbaas) ## Related Articles - [Best Companies in the Netherlands: Top 25 Companies in 2023 ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/193-best-companies-in-the-netherlands-top-25-companies-in-2023) - [The Netherlands – Europe’s powerhouse for software development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/31-the-netherlands-europe-s-powerhouse-for-software-development) - [Data Engineer Salary UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/253-data-engineer-salary-uk) - [Software Developer Salary in The Netherlands [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/217-software-developer-salary-in-the-netherlands-2023) - [The Most Popular IT Jobs on the Market](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/376-the-most-popular-it-jobs-on-the-market) - [How to land a developer job in Amsterdam](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/36-how-to-land-a-developer-job-in-amsterdam)
