Agent guide: [/agents.md](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/agents.md). --- # Senior Software Engineer - **Company:** STS Defence - **Location:** Gosport, UK - **Experience:** Expert - **Contract:** Permanent contract - **Skills:** HTML, Java (Programming Language), Automation of Tests, Bash Shell, Bugzilla, C Sharp (Programming Language), C++ (Programming Language), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Command-Line Interface, Linux, Web Development, Embedded Software, Software Maintenance, Qt Modeling Language (QML), Qt (Software), Software Engineering, Software Requirements Analysis, Software Systems, Management of Software Versions, Scripting, Information Technology - **Published:** September 8, 2026 - **Apply:** https://www.collegerecruiter.com/job/2840575343-senior-software-engineer ## About the Role * Degree qualified (BSc or equivalent) in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience. * Experience with C++, C#, Java, and web development (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.). * Exposure to embedded development (Linux, bash/shell scripting, terminal command-line scripts, Qt/QML). * Strong experience architecting cradle-to-grave software solutions including Technology Readiness Level (TRL) process. * Proven track record with creating and maintaining servers, primarily those with versioning control, Bugzilla, project management capabilities and automated testing capabilities. * Strong experience of the software development lifecycle processes, ensuring quality of process and firm traceability from requirements to implementation. * Experience creating and managing cloud-based big data solutions desirable. * Proven track record of working collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. ## Description The Senior Software Engineer will be a key member of the Systems and Software team within the Programmes area at STS Defence, playing an active role in designing, developing, and maintaining software across the full Software Development Lifecycle; from requirements elicitation through to in-service delivery. The post will provide technical leadership on software projects for key stakeholders and on software development activities undertaken by the company. This includes responsibility for managing code and quality reviews to ensure relevant quality standards are met across the software team.
