We build the Guardian iOS app primarily in Swift. With 4.8+ star reviews, one of the UK's top 12 news apps on the App Store, and handpicked by Apple's editorial team for its Editor's Choice collection, we're trusted by millions of readers to deliver a fast, reliable and accessible experience. As an iOS Engineer you'll build and maintain features, taking ownership of the delivery of appropriately scoped pieces of work from design through to release with the support of your team. About the role * You'll be building and testing major new features, as well as improving and maintaining existing functionality. * Our programming language of choice is Swift, and we now build all new features exclusively using SwiftUI, but you'll occasionally work with legacy code in Objective-C. * You won't be coding in isolation - our culture is strongly collaborative, whether pair programming with other developers or working closely with designers, editorial and commercial colleagues. * Sometimes deciding what code to write is as hard as writing the code itself. As an engineer you'll be involved in product decisions as well as technical ones. * You'll be reviewing the code of other engineers to ensure we maintain our app's high standard. * You'll contribute to technical discussions and help evolve our architecture and engineering practices * You'llcollaborate closely with product managers, designers and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality user experiences * You'll strive to be innovative on a daily basis, as well as at our regular hack days. For example, a recent hack day saw the iOS team develop a new home screen widget using SwiftUI, which has now been shipped to the App Store., Our engineers and developers operate in a hybrid environment working 1 day a week from our offices in Kings Cross and 4 days a week remotely. We aspire to have inclusive working experiences and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Many of our staff work flexibly and we will consider all requests for flexible working arrangements., 30 days' annual leave per annum with a holiday purchase scheme (for permanent or fixed-term contract employees based in the UK). * People policies We have enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave policies in place.
