You can create opportunities yourself rather than waiting for a marketing team to fill your diary. You are comfortable picking up the phone, using LinkedIn, attending networking events, developing referral relationships and finding intelligent reasons to speak with target organisations. You also understand that the biggest immediate opportunity is not always the right opportunity to pursue first. You understand how to develop client relationships step-by-step. You're comfortable starting with a small piece of work, proving value, and earning the right to uncover bigger opportunities. You keep in touch, stay patient, and know that your success, and your commission, will grow as the relationship deepens, often into years two and three., * Evidence that you have personally created sales opportunities rather than relying predominantly on inbound or management-generated leads * Experience selling consultative solutions * Evidence of owning a sales pipeline, including prospecting, qualification, follow-up and progression * Ability to uncover commercial problems through questioning and listening rather than immediately pushing a predetermined solution * Evidence of developing referral, introducer, partnership or networking channels that generated commercial opportunities Advantageous Criteria * Software Development, It Services or Process development industry experience ## Description This role exists because the business is growing fast, fuelled by strong relationships and referrals. We're ready for our first dedicated commercial hire to help shape how we engage clients, expand into new sectors like financial services and construction, and build a repeatable sales engine. You'll be instrumental in helping us reach £1m in revenue and laying the groundwork for future growth. You are joining the team to create a predictable flow of new clients by generating your own opportunities, developing referral channels and converting genuine business problems into well-qualified projects for the technical team. Your average customer may range from: * Growing businesses dealing with inefficient, disconnected or manual processes and systems * Larger organisations, including private-equity-backed businesses, with the budget and commercial need to improve systems, automation and operational processes Success in your first year looks like: * Bringing approximately 12 new clients into the business, with one new client per month as the longer-term operating rhythm * Building a healthy pipeline through direct prospecting, networking, existing relationships and referral/channel partners * Creating client relationships that begin with the right first project and have the potential to develop into further projects, retainers and referrals To achieve this, you will: * Identify businesses experiencing the problems the team is equipped to solve and create intelligent reasons to start conversations * Build and maintain relationships with potential clients, existing clients and referral partners rather than relying solely on supplied leads * Qualify opportunities properly before bringing technical colleagues into discovery, helping establish the real problem, commercial context, stakeholders, budget and timescale Activity Expectations We're not focused on rigid activity metrics. What matters is one high-quality conversation each day with the right people. That's what will lead to one new client each month, and a pipeline of opportunities that grows over time. You will be expected to: * Generate opportunities personally rather than depend on warm inbound leads * Maintain regular contact with active and potential referral partners * Keep a clear, current pipeline and follow up consistently * Prioritise quality conversations with relevant businesses over indiscriminate high-volume outreach * Track your own activity and conversion so the sales process becomes increasingly measurable and predictable, Projects can begin with a relatively contained requirement, connecting systems, improving a process or solving a specific operational problem, before developing into larger projects as the team learns more about the client's business. Existing work has demonstrated the value of this approach: delivering a useful first project well, earning trust and becoming the team clients call when the next problem emerges. Our Culture People are expected to take ownership, communicate openly and work collaboratively. The business is actively improving how work is shared and managed internally rather than allowing knowledge to sit with isolated individuals. Commercially, the expectation is equally straightforward: listen properly, understand what the client actually needs and do not chase a larger sale simply because it carries the largest immediate price tag. The right solution may be to start smaller, deliver well and earn the right to do more. Your Team You will report directly to the Managing Director, whose responsibilities include sales, finance, HR and marketing. You will work closely with the operations and technical teams. Sales and technical discovery are collaborative: your responsibility is to create and qualify the opportunity, with technical colleagues joining when deeper requirements and solution design need to be explored.
