However, you must have the knowledge and experience to independently manage the school's IT environment, take ownership of all day-to-day issues and resolve most technical problems without supervision. We need someone dependable, trustworthy and hardworking who takes pride in their work. You must have excellent timekeeping, communicate well with staff at all levels and follow issues through to completion. Previous IT support experience within a school, college, academy or multi-academy trust is mandatory. Applicants must be able to provide at least one satisfactory reference from an education setting upon offer., * Significant experience delivering 1st, 2nd and 3rd line IT support. * Previous IT support experience within a school, college, academy or multi-academy trust. * Proven ability to independently manage the daily IT requirements of a school. * Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP. * Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience. * Good knowledge of Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint. * Strong practical networking knowledge, including switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, Wi-Fi and broadband. * Experience managing physical and virtual server environments. * Experience managing backups and completing data restores. * Experience supporting MIS and other education-specific systems. * Good understanding of school filtering, monitoring, safeguarding and data-protection requirements. * Strong knowledge of Windows devices, software deployment and troubleshooting. * Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills. * Ability to confidently manage complex technical issues through to resolution. * Ability to prioritise a busy workload and remain organised under pressure. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to communicate confidently with staff, pupils, senior leaders and third-party suppliers. * Reliable, trustworthy and consistently punctual. * A strong work ethic and willingness to take full ownership of tasks. * Ability to work independently while recognising when an issue should be escalated. * A professional and approachable manner. * Willingness to continue learning and developing technical knowledge. * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. * Ability to provide at least one satisfactory reference from an education setting. Desirable Skills and Experience * Experience working across a multi-academy trust or multi-site education environment. * Experience with SIMS and associated school applications. * Experience with Microsoft Intune, SCCM or other deployment platforms. * Knowledge of Hyper-V and VMware. * Experience with Smoothwall filtering, firewalls and monitoring systems. * Experience managing UniFi wireless and network infrastructure. * Knowledge of Paxton Net2 or similar access-control systems. * Understanding of DfE technology standards, cybersecurity standards and Risk Protection Arrangement requirements. * Relevant Microsoft, CompTIA, networking or infrastructure qualifications. ## Description Tel Group is looking for a highly experienced and technically capable Senior IT Technician to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of IT within a secondary school in the Romiley area of Stockport. This is a hands-on senior position covering 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support. You will be the school's lead onsite technician and will be responsible for managing its users, devices, servers, network infrastructure, cloud services and education-specific systems., Day-to-Day IT Support * Take responsibility for the daily operation of IT across the school. * Provide comprehensive 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support to staff and pupils. * Manage and prioritise support requests through the helpdesk system. * Take ownership of technical issues and follow them through to resolution. * Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, server and cloud-related issues. * Provide support in person, remotely, over the telephone and by email. * Identify recurring problems and implement long-term solutions. * Keep users and senior stakeholders informed of progress. * Escalate specialist or major issues to Tel Group's wider technical team when required. Servers and Infrastructure * Manage and maintain physical and virtual Windows Server environments. * Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and file and print services. * Support Hyper-V virtualisation environments. * Monitor server health, capacity, performance and security. * Manage backup systems and check that scheduled backups complete successfully. * Perform and document test restores in line with recovery procedures. * Maintain server updates, security patches and antivirus protection. * Diagnose server faults and coordinate repairs or replacements. * Maintain accurate technical and recovery documentation. Networking and Connectivity * Manage and troubleshoot the school's wired and wireless network. * Configure and support managed switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points. * Maintain VLANs, network segmentation and switch configurations. * Diagnose broadband, Wi-Fi and internal network issues. * Support UniFi or similar centrally managed network environments. * Configure and troubleshoot NPS and RADIUS authentication. * Support VoIP services and other network-connected systems. * Liaise with broadband, telephony and third-party service providers. * Monitor network performance and identify improvements. Microsoft 365 and Cloud Services * Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint. * Manage user accounts, groups, licences, permissions and shared mailboxes. * Support Microsoft Entra ID and identity synchronisation where applicable. * Manage multi-factor authentication and account security. * Support Microsoft Intune or similar device-management platforms. * Investigate email delivery, account access, permissions and security issues. * Support staff and pupils with the effective use of Microsoft 365. Devices and Classroom Technology * Install, configure, deploy and maintain desktops, laptops, tablets and other devices. * Create and maintain device images and software deployment processes. * Support Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices. * Diagnose hardware faults and arrange warranty repairs. * Manage printers, scanners and other school peripherals. * Support interactive displays, projectors and audio-visual equipment. * Provide technical support for assemblies, exams, meetings and school events. * Maintain accurate asset registers and equipment records., * Administer and support education MIS platforms such as SIMS, working with specialist third-party support when required. * Support ParentPay, safeguarding platforms, access-control systems and other school applications. * Manage staff and pupil onboarding, account changes and offboarding. * Support annual academic rollover and other scheduled school processes. * Administer web filtering and monitoring platforms such as Smoothwall. * Maintain appropriate filtering, monitoring and access controls for staff and pupils. * Ensure IT systems are operated in line with KCSIE, GDPR, safeguarding requirements and school policies. * Support examination systems and provide technical assistance during exam periods. * Assist safeguarding and leadership teams with relevant technical investigations. Cybersecurity and Business Continuity * Monitor antivirus, endpoint protection, patching and security alerts. * Apply appropriate security updates across servers, devices and network equipment. * Maintain secure account permissions and access controls. * Support cyber-incident response and recovery procedures. * Assist with backup, disaster-recovery and business-continuity planning. * Help maintain alignment with DfE technology and cybersecurity standards. * Identify technical risks and clearly communicate recommendations.
