## About the Role

Our client, operating within the iGaming sector, is undertaking a strategic migration from a large-scale Microsoft SQL Server estate to PostgreSQL. As part of this transition, the client is continuing to develop internal PostgreSQL capability but requires experienced PostgreSQL consultants to support delivery and provide practical, on-the-job knowledge transfer. The contractor will have a working knowledge of Compliant Systems, guaranteeing Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation and Durability (ACID) regarding Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS), * Extensive commercial experience administering and consulting on PostgreSQL environments.

 * Proven track record delivering SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration programmes.
 * Strong understanding of:
 * PostgreSQL architecture and administration
 * Database performance tuning and optimisation
 * Backup, recovery, and high availability approaches
 * Query optimisation and execution planning
 * Database security and access management
 * Experience with migration tooling and automation.
 * Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and mentor client teams.
 * Strong stakeholder engagement and consultancy skills.

Desirable Experience

 * Experience within iGaming or other high-transaction environments.
 * Exposure to cloud-hosted PostgreSQL platforms.
 * Experience supporting large-scale database transformation initiatives.
 * Familiarity with DevOps and infrastructure automation practices.

Certifications / Accreditations (Preferred)

 * PostgreSQL-related certifications or recognised database accreditations.
 * Relevant cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) where PostgreSQL services are utilised.

Deliverables

 * Successful migration support from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
 * Knowledge transfer sessions and capability uplift for internal teams.
 * Documentation and operational handover.
 * Recommendations for ongoing PostgreSQL adoption and optimisation.

## Description

The consultant will play a hands-on role in migration activities while helping internal teams accelerate their PostgreSQL expertise., * Assess and support migration of existing SQL Server environments to PostgreSQL.

 * Design and implement migration strategies, tooling, and best practices.
 * Perform database conversion, schema migration, and data validation activities.
 * Optimise PostgreSQL environments for performance, reliability, and scalability.
 * Troubleshoot and resolve migration and operational issues.
 * Work closely with client engineering and database teams during transition phases.
 * Deliver practical knowledge transfer and mentoring to internal teams.
 * Produce technical documentation, migration runbooks, and operational guidance.
 * Support governance, standards, and PostgreSQL operational excellence.
