Our client has delivered high-performance embedded computing solutions across defence, telecoms, aerospace and more for decades, delivering best-in-class solutions that allow the latest generations of compute power to exist in the harshest of environments. The Role Once a product ships, someone owns it for the rest of its life. That's this role. The early product hardware team spend six months to two years taking a product from spec to market; once it's out in the field, you take over. You'll solve the problems production and customers uncover, stay ahead of component obsolescence, and evolve the board to keep it competitive for years to come. It means working on today's most advanced compute technology without the year-or-two design grind to get there. Every product you touch is already proven in the field, so you're solving real problems, not theoretical ones. Your candid feedback and collaborative spirit will help evolve hardware methodologies to keep mission-critical systems at the leading edge. This is a hands-on role with a lot of lab work. You'll be as comfortable with an oscilloscope and logic analyser as you are at a screen, so it's an office-based role, though there is flexibility when life requires, or on the rare occasions when you don't need access to the products, and the oscilloscope. What You Will Be Doing * Full ownership of product redesign, from investigating reported issues through to a verified fix * Testing and redesign of existing products post-design: From prototype validation through to production, incorporating customer and production feedback * Lead the complete re-design of legacy products * Integrate the latest market components to extend product lifecycles * Create and modernise schematics and high-density PCB designs (16-20 layers), and verify layout work for signal integrity * Tackle component obsolescence, and manage documentation * Conduct design reviews, troubleshooting, and debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and environmental test chambers * Report on technical progress * Actively shape hardware development processes ## Related Videos - [More efficient software for more efficient microchips](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1164-more-efficient-software-for-more-efficient-microchips) - [The Gashlycrumb Tinies of AI Networking You Must Know (or Languish!)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2067-the-gashlycrumb-tinies-of-ai-networking-you-must-know-or-languish) - [Building a hypercar from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/607-building-a-hypercar-from-scratch) - [Breaking the Hardware Mindset: Overcoming Barriers to System-Level Innovation](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1635-breaking-the-hardware-mindset-overcoming-barriers-to-system-level-innovation) - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [The Billion Dollar Machine: First Time Right.](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/393-the-billion-dollar-machine-first-time-right) ## Related Articles - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [Why Upskilling And Reskilling is Important For Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/428-why-upskilling-and-reskilling-is-important-for-developers) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers)
