## About the Role

* Strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux systems, including device bring-up
 * Proficiency in Python and shell scripting
 * Strong networking knowledge (VPNs, routing, firewalling)
 * Experience working in headless Linux environments (SSH, UART, serial consoles)
 * Strong understanding of systemd and Linux service management
 * Experience with Git-based development workflows
 * Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and PCB diagrams
 * Proven ability to work autonomously and provide technical direction, * Ownership of a flagship embedded and edge AI platform used in real-world transport environments
 * Opportunity to shape architecture in a rapidly scaling AI-enabled hardware business

Recruiter's Note
This is a high-ownership embedded leadership role suited to engineers who are happiest close to the hardware. We are looking for someone who has taken Linux-based embedded systems from bring-up through to production deployment and ongoing fleet support.

Ideal backgrounds include embedded Linux, edge computing, video/CCTV systems, or hardware-adjacent engineering environments. Strong preference for candidates who can operate across software and hardware boundaries and are comfortable leading technically while remaining hands-on.

## Description

* Own embedded Linux and edge system architecture across deployed and next-generation products
 * Lead design decisions across performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
 * Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems used in fleet-scale edge devices
 * Manage boot processes, system services, and runtime behaviour (systemd)
 * Build tooling, automation, and diagnostics using Python and shell scripting
 * Support device provisioning, remote monitoring, and field troubleshooting at scale
 * Design secure networking configurations including VPNs, routing, and firewalling
 * Collaborate with hardware teams on integration of compute platforms, cameras, and peripherals
 * Interpret schematics and PCB designs for system-level debugging
 * Act as escalation point for complex production and field issues
 * Provide technical leadership across embedded and cross-functional engineering teams
