Familiarity with integration through published APIs and web services (e.g. SOAP, REST, JSON specifications). An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for required work experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Working knowledge of core web technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language such as Python, PHP, PowerShell, or Bash. * Working knowledge of Linux-hosted web applications, content management systems (CMS), APIs, web servers, and common web infrastructure. * Proficiency using the Linux command-line interface (CLI) to administer, troubleshoot, and maintain web services. * Proficiency using modern development tools, including integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Visual Studio Code, version control systems (e.g., Git), command-line utilities, and API testing tools. * Knowledge of digital accessibility principles and the ability to develop, configure, test, and remediate digital services in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and institutional accessibility standards. * Knowledge of modern web development standards, responsive design principles, and web performance optimization techniques. * Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve issues affecting websites, web applications, integrations, and related infrastructure. * Ability to learn and apply emerging web technologies, development frameworks, and best practices. * Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize work effectively, anticipate issues, and complete assignments within established deadlines. * Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills with a commitment to delivering reliable, secure, and user-centered digital services. * Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and security of sensitive information and systems in accordance with College policies and applicable federal and state regulations. ## Description The Digital Communications Developer advances the College's digital presence by designing, developing, integrating, and maintaining enterprise web services, websites, and related applications that support the marketing, academic, and administrative missions of the College. This position assesses the web and digital communication needs of students, faculty, staff, prospective students, and the public, translating those needs into secure, accessible, and user-centered technical solutions. The role develops and maintains web applications, system integrations, APIs, and automated processes; provides technical support for web-related services through the IT service management (ITSM) process; administers Linux-based web hosting environments; and ensures the reliability, security, and availability of critical web infrastructure, including WordPress, LAMP applications, and enterprise web services., Activity Consults with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to assess business and technical requirements and recommend secure, accessible, maintainable, and user-centered digital solutions, with an emphasis on leveraging low-code and no-code platforms where appropriate. Analyzes requirements, documents technical solutions, and develops or configures web-based applications, workflows, integrations, and related technologies to support College initiatives. Provides technical support and troubleshooting through the College's IT Service Management (ITSM) process, including ticket resolution, user consultation, and issue follow-up. Participates in cross-functional projects to design, develop, implement, and integrate enterprise IT and web solutions that meet stakeholder and institutional needs. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 20 Activity Supports, administers, documents, maintains, and enhances assigned web applications and digital platforms, including but not limited to enterprise content management systems, LAMP and WordPress websites, the SharePoint intranet, custom scripts, APIs, and related web services. Performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and documentation to ensure systems remain secure, reliable, accessible, and maintainable. Evaluates existing custom-developed solutions and identifies opportunities to replace or streamline them using supported low-code or no-code platforms when appropriate to improve sustainability, reduce technical debt, and enhance long-term maintainability. Essential or Marginal Essential Percent of Time 25 Activity Provides operational support for assigned enterprise web services, including availability to respond outside of normal business hours, as required, to maintain service availability and continuity. Responds promptly to assigned service interruptions, outages, and performance issues, prioritizing timely restoration while minimizing disruption to users and College operations. Communicates service status, business impact, restoration progress, and verified root-cause findings to appropriate stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner. Utilizes established processes and tools for incident, problem, change, and knowledge management to support continuous service improvement and operational excellence. Deploys and maintains tools and services for system monitoring, traffic analysis, intrusion detection, logging, performance monitoring, and service availability. Responds promptly to security advisories, vulnerability management alerts, and operational issues to maintain the security, reliability, and availability of assigned services. Documents technical knowledge, follows established standards and procedures, and shares expertise with team members to promote collaboration, consistency, and continuous improvement.
