You may currently be working for an MSP, IT services company, systems integrator, managed network provider, or internal IT department. You should have solid working knowledge of: * TCP/IP networking, DHCP and DNS * Managed switches, VLANs, routers/firewalls and Wi-Fi troubleshooting * VPNs and internet/WAN troubleshooting * Windows PCs and common SMB IT * IP cameras and NVRs * Basic structured cabling and physical network infrastructure Experience with Ubiquiti UniFi is strongly preferred, particularly UniFi Network and Protect. UniFi Access experience is a major plus. Experience with access control, alarms, VoIP, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, commercial low-voltage systems, or other networking platforms is also valuable. ## Description This is a hybrid position for someone who is strong in IT and networking, but also enjoys working with their hands and being in the field. You might spend one day configuring switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi, cameras, or troubleshooting a customer's network remotely - and the next day be onsite commissioning a network, installing equipment in a rack, mounting an access point, testing cabling, or leading a technician through an installation. This is not a traditional systems admin position. It is also not primarily a cable-pulling position. We are looking for someone who can eventually take technical ownership of DDT customer environments and lead projects from installation through commissioning and support. Where You Fit on the Team DDT is building around a two-person field team. The Lead IT Systems Technician is the technical leader of the team, working directly with a Low-Voltage Field Technician. The Low-Voltage Technician focuses primarily on physical installation: cabling, pathways, terminations, equipment mounting, cameras, access-control hardware, racks, testing, labeling, and jobsite workmanship. You are the technical lead of the team. You will handle networking, configuration, troubleshooting, commissioning, technical decisions, customer communication, and technical direction of the installation. You will still work alongside the technician and perform hands-on field work when needed. We want someone who is equally comfortable opening a laptop and opening a tool bag. What You'll Do * Configure and troubleshoot routers/gateways, managed switches, Wi-Fi access points, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, routing, VPNs, and internet connectivity. * Manage DDT's customer UniFi environments, including device health, alerts, firmware, configuration, troubleshooting, and documentation. * Configure and support UniFi Network, Protect, and Access environments. * Install and commission networks, cameras/NVRs, access-control systems, and other IP-based technology. * Troubleshoot Windows PCs, printers, VoIP, internet connections, and common small-business IT problems. * Lead onsite technical execution alongside a Low-Voltage Field Technician. * Rack and mount equipment and perform Cat6 termination/testing when needed. * Perform technical site surveys and identify installation requirements. * Communicate directly with customers regarding technical issues and project progress. * Document customer networks and systems so another qualified technician can understand and support them. * Identify scope gaps or potential change-order situations before additional work is performed. * Research unfamiliar problems and technologies and develop solutions rather than waiting for step-by-step instructions. * Help develop DDT technical standards, checklists, documentation, and deployment procedures as the company grows., Technical knowledge matters, but how you approach problems matters just as much. We're looking for someone who sees something unusual and thinks, "That's weird. Why is it doing that?" Then investigates until the answer makes sense. * Troubleshoots methodically instead of randomly changing things. * Takes ownership of problems through resolution. * Researches and learns independently. * Knows when to make a decision and when an issue needs escalation. * Documents what they changed and why. * Communicates professionally with customers. * Remains calm when systems are down and people are waiting. * Takes pride in clean, professional field work. * Can eventually guide and mentor other technicians. * Wants responsibility and career growth rather than simply another ticket queue. What This Position Is NOT This probably isn't the right role if you're looking for a job where you only work remotely, only manage servers/networks, never touch tools or cabling, or prefer receiving detailed instructions for every task. Likewise, if your background is primarily cable installation and your networking experience consists mostly of connecting devices and adopting access points, this position may be more IT-focused than you're looking for. We're looking for someone who lives between those two worlds. Long-Term Vision for This Position We are not hiring someone simply to fill today's technician position. We are looking for someone who can potentially grow with DDT and become a major part of the company's technical leadership. Initially, you'll work closely with the owner and learn our customers, systems, standards, and project process. As you demonstrate your ability, the goal is for you to progressively take ownership of DDT's day-to-day technical operations including customer UniFi environments, routine technical support, project commissioning, and leadership of the field technician. As DDT grows, we expect to add additional technicians and eventually additional field teams. Manager -> Leadership across multiple DDT field teams The person who joins us now has an opportunity to help define the technical standards, documentation, processes, and operating systems that future technicians will follow. We don't want our future technical leader to simply be the person who personally fixes everything. We want that person to eventually build a technical operation that allows other good technicians to succeed. What Success Looks Like Within your first several months, we want you to become increasingly independent in customer support, UniFi administration, troubleshooting, field commissioning, and project leadership. Over time, you should be able to take a normal DDT project, work with the Low-Voltage Field Technician, communicate with the customer, solve the technical problems, commission the system, document it, and bring the project across the finish line. The ultimate measure of success: Customers and the field team can rely on you as DDT's technical lead without requiring the manager to personally solve every technical problem. The position will include an initial performance evaluation period with structured milestones around technical ability, troubleshooting, customer communication, documentation, field performance, ownership, and leadership. Compensation and responsibilities can grow as the position develops into broader technical leadership. Why Join DDT? At a large IT company, you may be one technician among dozens. At DDT, this position has the opportunity to become a foundational technical leadership role. You'll work directly with the owner, influence how our technical operation is built, help establish company standards, lead real commercial projects, and potentially help build the team that will eventually work under you.
