Have you administered and optimised mission-critical PostgreSQL environments in cloud-first organisations, ensuring performance, availability and resilience at scale? Can you demonstrate broad technical knowledge across Platform Engineering, DevOps and Infrastructure, alongside experience with automation and scripting using Python? Would you like to join a fast-paced, technology-focused financial services business and take your career to the next level? We're looking for a Database Platform Engineer to help evolve and scale a growing database infrastructure that supports a demanding and globally distributed technology environment. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the administration, optimisation and automation of modern database platforms, with a particular emphasis on PostgreSQL, Azure and associated technologies such as PgBouncer. This opportunity would suit someone who has helped build or mature database platform capabilities within a growing business, delivering highly available, performant and scalable database services for engineering teams. Previous financial services experience is not essential. What matters is deep database administration expertise, strong platform engineering fundamentals and a passion for building reliable, automated database infrastructure. As part of a specialist Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, administration, automation, scalability and reliability of the firm's database platforms. You will work closely with software engineers, DevOps teams, infrastructure specialists and platform engineers to deliver robust, secure and highly performant database services across a complex technology landscape. This is an opportunity to become a technical authority for database infrastructure, helping shape the future of the database platform whilst improving performance, resilience, scalability and operational efficiency. A selection of your key responsibilities will include administering and optimising large-scale PostgreSQL environments, managing connection pooling and database performance through tools such as PgBouncer, designing and supporting highly available database architectures within Microsoft Azure, and developing automation to simplify provisioning, monitoring and operational support. You will also support database performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, replication, patching and capacity planning, whilst contributing to broader platform engineering initiatives. Experience of ClickHouse and Microsoft SQL Server environments would be highly advantageous. As the ideal candidate, you will be able to demonstrate 4+ years' experience in Database Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps or Infrastructure roles with a strong focus on database administration. You'll possess deep expertise in PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, high availability, replication and operational support within Azure-based environments. You will have strong Linux systems administration skills, experience with database automation and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible or equivalent, and some software engineering experience with Python. Experience supporting cloud-native platforms, containerised environments and modern platform engineering practices would also be beneficial. Exposure to technologies including PgBouncer, ClickHouse and Microsoft SQL Server would be highly desirable.
