The work will focus on understanding how consumers perceive changes in their skin and hair before and after shaving. The intern will explore key aspects of the shaving experience, such as perceived skin smoothness, evenness, and tone, by combining image-based technical measurements with visual perception and consumer data. Using approaches such as computer vision, multimodal AI, and Generative AI, the goal is to identify the skin and hair characteristics that drive what consumers see and experience, and better connect technical product performance with consumer perception. The ideal candidate is a curious and proactive PhD student with strong scientific, analytical, and problem-solving skills who enjoys tackling open-ended research problems, working across disciplines, and developing creative solutions., * Education: Working towards a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Data Science, Statistics, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, or a related quantitative/scientific field * Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning, computer vision, multimodal AI, image analysis, data analysis, statistics, or quantitative modeling. * Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027 in Boston, Massachusetts. Expected in-office schedule is 3 days a week in office at Gillette's Boston, MA location., * Analytical Methods: Experience with computer vision, image processing, machine learning, statistical modeling, perception research, human-subject studies, or multimodal data analysis. Experience connecting objective measurements to human perception is especially relevant. * Generative AI: Familiarity with multimodal GenAI, vision-language models (VLMs), foundation models, or agentic AI workflows. * Development Tools: Familiarity with collaborative development tools and workflows, such as Git and GitHub. ## Description * Develop and evaluate multimodal GenAI approaches to understand skin and hair perception from images. * Connect image-based measurements with consumer data to identify key visual drivers of perception and product experience. * Build benchmarks, evaluation datasets, and metrics to assess model alignment with human perception. * Explore agentic and multimodal AI workflows that integrate images, technical measurements, and consumer data to address open-ended R&D problems. * Translate findings into actionable insights for R&D and product development.
