## About the Role

* We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a large-scale digital programme delivering critical citizen-facing services.
 * This is a senior hands-on engineering role requiring strong Java development and testing expertise, alongside experience working with large, complex systems. You will contribute to the design, development, refactoring and integration of robust software products, while providing technical leadership and promoting high standards of software engineering across the wider development community.
 * The role will suit someone comfortable working on complex enterprise applications with a strong focus on operational stability, resilience, availability, maintainability and code quality.

Key Technical Skills:

 * Strong commercial Java development experience, ideally across Java 11-28
 * Spring Boot
 * Hibernate/JPA
 * Dropwizard
 * MongoDB
 * Experience refactoring large-scale/complex systems
 * Strong understanding of event-driven architecture
 * Experience designing and developing APIs, services and reusable libraries
 * Systems integration and integration testing
 * Strong understanding of modern software engineering standards and best practices
 * Experience designing systems of medium-to-high technical complexity
 * Strong focus on resilience, performance, availability and operational stability

## Description

* Design, develop, test and maintain high-quality Java applications and services.
 * Refactor and modernise large, complex existing systems while maintaining operational stability.
 * Design and contribute to event-driven architectures and system integrations.
 * Develop reusable libraries, components and services that can be adopted across multiple products.
 * Work with Architecture and Engineering teams to design scalable and maintainable solutions.
 * Review code and technical designs, ensuring appropriate engineering standards and technologies are being used.
 * Take ownership of software quality, including development, automated testing, integration testing and production support.
 * Identify and support the resolution of complex application and infrastructure issues.
 * Provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to other Software Engineers.
 * Promote software engineering best practice and knowledge sharing across development teams.
