As a hands-on engineer, you will be trusted to own technical tasks and incident resolution end-to-end, collaborating with colleagues to keep critical services available for our people and our customers. You'll play a key role in infrastructure and integration projects across our UK estate, helping design, build, and improve environments that enable our teams to deliver. From hardening and patching to automation and monitoring, you will continuously refine platforms and processes to raise standards and reduce risk. ROLE EXPECTATIONS Most days you'll be operating, maintaining, and improving core infrastructure, working through a mix of tickets, changes, and small projects. You will troubleshoot issues with urgency, automate repetitive tasks, document clearly, and collaborate with colleagues and vendors to deliver stable, secure outcomes. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE * Platforms are stable, performant, and patched on schedule, with clear recovery plans tested regularly. * Incidents are resolved quickly at root cause, with preventative actions captured and followed through. * Infrastructure changes are well-designed, documented, peer-reviewed, and deployed with minimal risk. * Automation reduces toil and speeds up provisioning, configuration, and compliance checks. * Monitoring and alerting are actionable, with meaningful metrics and trend visibility. * Stakeholders feel informed and supported, with timely updates and pragmatic technical guidance. HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME * Operating and improving on-prem and cloud infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and identity. * Troubleshooting incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing durable fixes. * Delivering changes and small projects: build, migrate, integrate, and decommission services. * Implementing security controls, patching, backups, and resilience testing across environments. * Automating routine tasks with scripts and infrastructure-as-code; maintaining documentation and runbooks. * Monitoring health and capacity, tuning performance, and optimizing costs in cloud and data centre. WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR * You're a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning problems to resolution and leaving things better than you found them. * You blend pragmatism with high standards, balancing reliability, security, and speed of delivery. * You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues and build strong vendor relationships. * You're curious, proactive, and comfortable working autonomously in a distributed team. * You value documentation, measurable outcomes, and learning from incidents to prevent recurrence.
