* Strong commercial experience developing backend applications with Python
 * Experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
 * Good understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles and software architecture
 * Strong knowledge of relational databases and data modelling
 * Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally AWS

## Description

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help design, build and scale modern backend services that power a market-leading digital platform.

You'll join a collaborative engineering team where you'll work alongside Product, Design and Commercial teams to build high-performance applications using modern technologies. This is an opportunity to influence technical direction, contribute to architectural decisions and mentor other engineers while working on exciting, large-scale systems.

What You'll Be Doing

 * Design, build and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services using Python
 * Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and architecture
 * Develop APIs and microservices that are reliable, secure and easy to maintain
 * Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering teams to deliver new features
 * Take part in code reviews, pair programming and technical discussions
 * Identify opportunities to improve development practices, tooling and Agile processes
 * Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team
 * Contribute ideas around new technologies, frameworks and engineering best practice
