The Defense teams are responsible for owning the security lifecycle and effectiveness across the Core, Edge, and Access networks and all of the systems and network functions within N&T. In this role, you will be expected to serve as the technical lead for network digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) across the Network Security Defense portfolio. You will lead technical investigations and incident response efforts during major security events while partnering across the Defense organization to strengthen network visibility and forensic readiness. A strong candidate will also possess incident orchestration capabilities, hands-on experience with modern forensic suites, and demonstrable experience in automation and scripting to streamline forensic capture and detection capabilities. Key Responsibilities: * Network & Digital Forensics: Collecting, preserving, and analyzing forensic evidence across heterogeneous network infrastructure, edge routers, switches, cloud environments, and specialized network functions. * Incident Response Leadership: Serving as the technical lead during major security incidents-driving containment, root-cause analysis, threat eradication, and network recovery. * Network Telemetry Analysis: Interrogating full packet captures (PCAP), NetFlow/IPFIX, firewall logs, and router/switch artifacts to trace adversary lateral movement and data exfiltration. * Memory & Endpoint Forensics: Analyzing volatility memory dumps, volatile network state, process execution artifacts, and compromised system state during active intrusions to uncover malware execution, persistence mechanisms, and lateral movement tactics. * YARA & Signature Engineering: Architecting, authoring, and maintaining custom YARA rules for memory analysis, file carving, binary inspection, and continuous endpoint/network artifact matching. * Threat Hunting & Evidence Extraction: Proactively dissecting advanced persistent threat (APT) TTPs, extracting indicators of compromise (IOCs), and converting forensic findings into actionable detections. * Automation & Forensic Tooling: Scripting automated artifact collection, evidence ingestion, and triage workflows to accelerate response timelines. * Playbooks & Process Maturity: Develop and refine specialized DFIR playbooks and runbooks for high-impact security incidents (e.g., state-sponsored intrusions, ransomware, supply chain compromises, and DDoS events). * Executive Reporting: Produce comprehensive, high-quality forensic investigation reports detailing attack timelines, root cause, evidence analysis, impact assessment, and technical remediation recommendations. ***This role can be located in any US based Verizon hub location.***
