This position provides technical support to City staff, troubleshoots complex issues, and develops technology solutions to meet departmental needs. The role also coordinates small-scale initiatives, documents new procedures, and establishes repeatable processes to improve service delivery and support consistency. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Information Technology Specialist and Senior Technician by its dual mandate: executing standard daily technical support while also performing advanced analytical problem-solving for uncommon, undocumented requests. It acts as a lateral peer to the technical tiers, translating vague business requirements into actionable IT workflows. SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines. WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Fridays 8:00am to 5:00pm. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either primarily in an office setting or out in the field. The City does not offer hybrid or remote work., This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department. * Primary Daily Workload (Technical Support): Receives, prioritizes and responds to technical support calls and requests; performs issue troubleshooting and resolution; enters and updates data and information. Provides second-level help desk support and troubleshoots issues related to mobile devices, data, and workstations. * Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Gathering: Conducts intake interviews with City staff to translate ambiguous or complex business needs (e.g., secure data sharing, unique software requirements) into actionable IT workflows. * Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Investigates and evaluates viable technology solutions for unique service requests that currently lack formal project oversight, historical precedents, or established runbooks. * Initiative Leadership: Acts as the lead coordinator for small-scale, non-project departmental initiatives and micro-rollouts, shepherding them from discovery through deployment. * Process Engineering & Documentation: Authors initial Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Knowledge Base articles for novel solutions. Transitions these newly created runbooks to the technical support tiers to ensure future occurrences become standard, repeatable tasks. * Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned., Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis. This position requires a 12-month probationary period. Internal applicant probationary periods will be governed by the applicable MOU.
