*Core Expertise:* Expert PostgreSQL expertise, particularly supporting *high-volume, business-critical production environments*

 - *Cloud:* Strong AWS experience with hands-on expertise in *Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL*
 - *Performance Troubleshooting:* Ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues and rapidly determine whether bottleneck is *query, database, infrastructure, or application related*
 - *SQL / Query Tuning:* Advanced *SQL tuning, EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE, indexing strategies, join optimization, statistics*, identifying inefficient queries
 - *PostgreSQL Internals:* Strong understanding of *PostgreSQL configuration & parameter tuning* - memory, WAL, checkpoints, autovacuum, connection management, planner settings, workload-specific optimization
 - *AWS Monitoring:* Hands-on with *AWS Performance Insights / Database Insights* to identify database load, expensive SQL, waits, locking, and bottlenecks
 - *Aurora Architecture:* Deep understanding of *Aurora PostgreSQL clusters, reader/writer instances, replicas, failover, scaling, parameter groups, maintenance, and backup/recovery*
 - *Proactive Operations:* Ability to develop *proactive monitoring and alerting* that identifies developing problems before they become incidents

## Description

We need someone who can serve as a *PostgreSQL/Aurora subject-matter expert* and actively improve the production environment. The person should be capable of diagnosing difficult production performance issues, tuning PostgreSQL and Aurora workloads, using AWS telemetry to identify bottlenecks, building proactive monitoring, and developing automation and permanent fixes that reduce recurring operational issues.
