## About the Role

You think about the customer and the business problem first, and you bring a pragmatic, solution-focused approach to everything you do.

In addition, the successful candidate will also have the following skills and experience:

 * People leadership experience, including mentoring and developing engineers.
 * Strong, current hands-on engineering experience, with 8+ years building production-grade web applications and at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.
 * Experience defining and embedding a new workflow or way of working within a team.
 * A demonstrated habit of staying up to date with technology and applying it sensibly.
 * Experience maintaining a large, high-traffic website (retail or e-commerce experience is highly regarded) and an understanding of release risk.
 * Strong JavaScript and TypeScript experience, ideally across Next.js, React and GraphQL (Apollo). Our team is mainly built on these technologies, but we don't need an exact match for every tool in our stack.
 * Experience designing and developing backend services and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL), and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
 * Strong system design skills and a solid grounding in engineering best practices, including CI/CD, Git workflows and automated testing (unit, integration and E2E).
 * Experience with cloud-native environments, preferably AWS.
 * Knowledge of web performance, accessibility and SEO principles.

It would also be great if you have:

 * Practical experience applying AI across the software development lifecycle, such as AI-assisted development, testing, code review and agentic workflows, with clear guardrails and review standards.
 * Experience with .NET or C#-based backends.
 * Experience supporting mobile applications or React Native integrations.
 * Familiarity with serverless architectures, containers and infrastructure-as-code in AWS.
