This is a firm requirement. * Strong development skills in C or Rust. C+ will be considered when the work has been genuinely low level (drivers, kernel, firmware, hardware interfaces) and not application-layer development. * Real interest in hardware and low-level problems. Direct hardware experience is a plus but not required. * A track record of personally owning hard technical work, with the ability to explain the specific decisions you made and why. * Willingness to work a hybrid schedule from Sioux Falls, SD, Oak Brook, IL, or Arizona. Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience * Open source contributions, particularly to Linux, embedded, or systems-level projects. * Linux Kernel or device driver development. * Board bring-up experience on new or custom hardware. * Embedded Linux build systems such as Yocto or Buildroot. * Experience in vehicle, off-highway, agricultural, industrial, or other machine-control environments. * Comfort using AI coding tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) as part of a daily engineering workflow. ## Description * Bring up, configure, and maintain board support packages for Embedded Linux compute platforms used on production vehicles. * Design and build core platform software, including drivers, system services, and Middleware that other engineering teams rely on. * Debug problems that cross the hardware and software boundary, working hands-on with hardware engineers when needed. * Own Linux build output for your area, including images, toolchains, and repeatable build processes. * Consider how individual components interact across the full vehicle, treating the machine as a system of connected systems. * Take personal ownership of technical decisions and deliverables, and move work forward quickly on ambiguous problems. * Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and team standards.
