Experience with PHP would be particularly useful, although experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript using Node.js, or similar technologies is also relevant. * Experience building modern web applications using JavaScript or TypeScript, gained commercially or through equivalent demonstrable experience. * Experience with a modern frontend framework such as React, Vue or Angular; experience with React would be particularly useful. * An understanding of REST APIs and how frontend and backend applications interact. * Experience working with relational databases and SQL. * An understanding of source control using Git. * Familiarity with automated testing and an understanding of why testing is important. * An understanding of fundamental software engineering concepts such as maintainability, separation of concerns and reusable code. * The ability to investigate problems and work through them methodically. Any of the following would be beneficial but are not essential: * Experience with our core technologies, particularly PHP/Symfony * Experience with Wordpress * Cloud or container technologies such as AWS, Docker or Kubernetes. * CI/CD and infrastructure tooling such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD or Terraform. * Messaging or event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or AWS messaging services. * Caching technologies such as Redis. * Working with third-party APIs and system integrations. * Observability, monitoring and supporting applications in production. * Agile, Kanban or other iterative software development practices. If you have a good foundation in software engineering and are keen to learn the areas you have not yet worked with, we would still encourage you to apply. ## Description We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join our Engineering team and help build, maintain and improve the applications and services that support our business and customers. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who has already gained some commercial software development experience and wants to continue developing across both frontend and backend technologies. You do not need to be an expert in every part of our technology stack. We are looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, a willingness to learn, and an interest in understanding how software works across the full application lifecycle. You will work as part of a cross-functional engineering team alongside software engineers, product, QA, data and platform specialists. You will contribute to new functionality, improve existing systems and help us continually improve the way we design, build, test and operate software., * Design, develop and maintain features across our web applications and supporting services. * Work across backend and frontend code, with opportunities to develop your skills in both areas. * Build and maintain APIs and integrations between internal and external systems. * Contribute to applications built using technologies such as PHP, Symfony, JavaScript/TypeScript and React. * Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code. * Participate in code reviews and learn from other engineers while providing constructive feedback to your peers. * Work with Product and other team members to understand requirements and help turn business problems into practical technical solutions. * Investigate and resolve bugs and production issues. * Work with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices. * Work with applications deployed within AWS and Kubernetes-based environments, developing your knowledge of cloud infrastructure and production operations. * Contribute to improving engineering standards, documentation and development practices. * Take responsibility for the quality of the software you deliver, from development through to production. * Continue developing your technical skills with support from more experienced members of the team.
