## About the Role

* Proficiency in a modern programming language and framework, with the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and codebases.
 * Experience designing and delivering web applications, backend services, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
 * Strong SQL and relational database development skills, including data modeling, query optimization, indexing, transactions, and data integrity.
 * Ability to diagnose performance across application code, data access layers, and databases.
 * Hands-on experience with Git, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting.
 * Working knowledge of Linux command-line tools, configuration, permissions, and application logs.
 * Understanding of secure application design, access controls, and sensitive data handling.
 * Practical use of AI-assisted development tools, with responsibility for validating generated code and tests.
 * Ability to resolve ambiguity, explain tradeoffs, and drive commitments to completion while escalating decisions appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience moving applications between Windows and Linux environments, using containers, or automating deployment.

· Experience supporting existing .NET/C# or Angular applications.

· Experience with AI development harnesses and tools, including coding agents, repository context, and automated validation workflows.

· Experience delivering portals, modernizing enterprise applications, or introducing development tools across a team.

· Experience in insurance or other environments with sensitive information and business-critical applications.

Experience

 * Seven or more years of professional software development experience, including substantial experience serving as a technical lead or lead developer on complex projects.
 * Demonstrated ability to establish technical direction, coordinate other developers, mentor teammates, and own delivery from requirements through production.
 * Proven ability to drive projects forward independently, resolve dependencies, and communicate risks and decisions proactively., * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

## Description

The Senior Software Engineer reports to the Vice President of IT and owns substantial software projects from discovery through production delivery. Initial priorities include a new web portal, AI-assisted development adoption, and evaluating application readiness for a potential move from Windows to Linux hosting. This hands-on role combines application and database development with support of existing systems. Success requires independent judgment, proactive communication, and dependable follow-through without repeated prompting., * Own project delivery from requirements and planning through development, testing, release, and production stabilization.

 * Clarify business needs, define acceptance criteria, and establish achievable milestones with stakeholders.
 * Make technical decisions, coordinate dependencies, and communicate progress and risks with recommended actions.
 * Build web applications, APIs, and integrations; select technologies based on requirements and long-term maintainability.
 * Design application schemas and develop SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, and data access code.
 * Optimize database access and deliver tested schema and data migrations in coordination with database operations staff.
 * Assess platform dependencies and support approved application changes for cloud-based and/or container-based hosting.
 * Build automated tests and reliable deployment workflows; troubleshoot application and data issues in production.
 * Pilot approved AI development tools, coach colleagues, and evaluate delivery and quality improvements.
 * Review code, mentor developers, and maintain technical documentation and support procedures.
