We are building the next generation of that technology, to go with Tesla's industry-leading FSD vehicles. Passengers never tell a vehicle how they feel, and no single sensor tells the whole story. Body heat, comfort, and drowsiness show up across many signals, and the vehicle understands them best when a well-chosen set of sensors works together. As a sensor fusion hardware engineer on the Sensing Hardware Team, you will design that set. You'll decide which sensors the vehicle needs, where they go, and how their signals come together. Then you'll build prototypes, study the data, and refine the suite until it is as simple, robust, and affordable as it can be. You'll work closely with the algorithm team, and you're welcome to shape the algorithms yourself. As FSD frees people from the wheel, the ride itself becomes the product. You'll own a focused part of it, from first prototype to high-volume production, on one of the most visible products in the world. What You'll Do * Own your subsystem end to end, from requirements through production, and be accountable for how it performs in the field * Architect the sensor suite for passenger comfort and state: choose sensing principles, quantity, and placement, and decide where signals are combined * Choose sensors with data: instrument prototypes with candidate sensors, analyze what each one adds, and cut to the smallest suite that meets the goal * Electrical: design and build sensor prototypes, including schematics, PCB layout, low-noise analog front-ends, and bring-up * Mechanical: design sensor housings, mounting, and interior integration in CAD, working with HVAC and design teams * Software and algorithms: collect and analyze multi-sensor data, and design and validate fusion algorithms with the algorithm team * Run test campaigns with people and in vehicles, and turn the results into clear hardware decisions * Work with suppliers and manufacturing to take the design from prototype to production
