## About the Role

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or its equivalent, plus 4 years of software engineering experience.
 * Experience writing production software in Python and working with Java, Kotlin, or another strongly typed programming language.
 * Experience designing, building, and operating scalable APIs, distributed systems, or microservices in a cloud environment such as AWS or GCP.
 * Experience owning the technical design and delivery of complex software projects from development through production.
 * Experience building production systems with requirements related to scalability, latency, reliability, or correctness., * Knowledge of fintech, financial systems, financial mathematics, statistics, machine learning platforms, or decisioning systems.
 * Experience working on business-critical systems that affect revenue, profitability, risk, or core product outcomes.
 * Experience with distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, platform engineering, continuous integration and deployment, or infrastructure as code.
 * Experience partnering with data science and product teams to productionize models, decisioning logic, or experimentation capabilities.
 * Ability to work effectively across engineering and non-engineering teams on technically complex initiatives.

## Description

* Design, build, and evolve high-performance, real-time pricing systems that support critical lending decisions across Upstart products.
 * Own complex engineering projects from technical design through delivery, balancing scalability, reliability, correctness, and speed of iteration.
 * Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate modeling and business requirements into reliable software solutions.
 * Identify and implement architectural improvements that increase the flexibility, maintainability, observability, and resilience of pricing services.
 * Contribute to technical standards for system design, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence within the Core Pricing team.
 * Support other engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing while contributing to sound technical decisions across the team.
