Typical tasks include the design of metallic and composite airframe structure. The selected candidate will be involved in developing basic data, preliminary design layouts and detail design for new and revised parts, assemblies and systems that make up helicopter fuselage primary and secondary structures. This involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Selected candidate will participate in development and presentation of design proposals, detail design and support through the product lifecycle. Layouts and drawings will be prepared using CATIA V5 and/or 3Dx. Composite design will utilize the CATIA and/or 3Dx Composite Design work benches. Occasional travel may be required to support suppliers, customer meetings and reviews, as well as aircraft build support and test. Who You Are In this position, the design engineer will work with cross functional teams within the Sikorsky Engineering and Technology group, across multiple sites. Excellent communication skills are required to ensure the team effectively meets requirements and achieves milestones. Technical tasks the engineer will perform include airframe layouts including 2D cross-sectional design, 3D solid modeling and surfacing of airframe assembly parts, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, engineering drawing and part specification development, developing composite laminate design and manufacturing requirements, and developing bonded assembly manufacture requirements. US citizenship required as most programs and projects assigned are ITAR restricted. Why Join Us At Sikorsky, your work can move from a digital model to a flight-ready aircraft. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers, solve challenging technical problems, and contribute to products that support critical missions. If you're ready to design what's next in aviation, bring your skills to Stratford and build the future with us. Designs major components, or major portions of a functional system, or technically advanced prototype, promotional or specific products. Develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, structures, and products. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
