Software engineers there end up on every project, working on new products and on the machines already out in the field. The job is pretty interactive, and there's a lot of variety in the work. Pushing back is fine, and they want people who bring solutions and work well across teams. Both the manager you'd report to and the R&D manager above them have an open-door policy. They're hoping to find someone who'll stay with them long-term. What You'll Actually Do: * Write the code behind upgrades and new product introductions, which is most of the job. * Lead the design of complex software subsystems and take them from concept through release. * You'd likely be the person the service team calls when a machine at a customer site needs troubleshooting. * Build the verification and test plans, including automated testing, for the software you ship. * Work with the mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers and the physics team to get your software running inside the full system. * Review code and help set the coding standards the team works to. * Mentor the Software Engineer I and II folks with design reviews and technical guidance. * Document your designs and follow the team's documented processes, including 8D problem solving.
