Work, internships, and substantial personal projects using languages such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript all count. * An understanding of HTTP APIs, JSON, and data validation, plus a willingness to read unfamiliar documentation and work through incomplete examples. * Comfort with Git, basic database queries, and automated tests, or a clear foundation you can build on with guidance. * Care with sensitive business data, attention to edge cases, and the judgment to flag uncertainty before a change reaches users. * Clear communication about progress and blockers, and a habit of finishing a scoped task before moving to the next one. Insurance systems, carrier APIs, ACORD forms, frontend development or document-processing tools are also useful. You can learn the insurance workflows on the job; we care most about sound coding fundamentals and the ability to explain your work. ## Description We're hiring an engineer to help build Simon's insurance technology platform, starting with the internal rater and evolving into an external client-facing product. You'll connect insurance carriers through their APIs, turn responses into usable quoting results, and help staff and brokers quote with less manual work. You'll work with the management team on technical direction and delivery priorities. This role suits an early-career engineer who has built working software, likes debugging, and wants to develop production engineering skills on a product people use every day. What You'll Do * Build and test integrations with insurance carrier APIs, including request formatting, data mapping, response handling, and clear messages when information is missing. * Help bring the first carriers into production, then add coverage in agreed stages while keeping existing integrations working. * Write tests for successful quotes, referrals, declines, and failures. Check that carrier results reach the right screens and remain traceable when something goes wrong. * Investigate bugs with logs and reproducible examples, make reviewed fixes, and update integrations as carrier requirements change. * Work with the management team on implementation choices, code reviews, and release checks. Keep technical notes and support instructions useful for the next person. * Help evolve the internal rater, building, testing, and rolling out broker-facing intake, missing-field review, and delivery of results for licensed staff to review. * Contribute reusable integration and validation components that can support other workflows.
