A few EDID tweaks, a firmware refresh on the switcher, and you're back in business. Midday: you're up a lift, re-terminating a Cat 6 run and labeling a rack while checking PoE budgets for a new set of ceiling mics. Afternoon: a campus calls-multicast flooding on a video-over-IP segment. You verify IGMP snooping and QoS, resolve an IP conflict, and document every step for the client. What you'll tackle * Service, diagnose, and repair professional AV systems: audio DSPs, amplifiers, speakers, video displays/projectors, control processors and touch panels, plus video conferencing suites (e.g., Teams Room kits). * Swap, reconfigure, and RMA malfunctioning gear; liaise with manufacturer tech support; apply firmware and configuration updates. * Perform preventive maintenance and full system health checks; interpret blueprints, schematics, and signal flow. * Network-centric AV: basic IP setup (static vs DHCP), VLAN awareness, conflict resolution; optimize video-over-IP (IGMP snooping, QoS, jumbo frames); validate PoE power classes and budgets. * Digital/analog video and audio: HDMI/HDBaseT (EDID, HDCP), SDI, USB, balanced/unbalanced audio, and speaker-level signals. * Resolve device comms issues; apply light programming tweaks (Q-SYS, Crestron) to stabilize systems. * Cabling & hardware: re-terminate Cat 6, BNC, speaker wire, and euroblocks; test cable runs and endpoints; maintain tidy, labeled racks; flag and document poor install practices. * Pitch in on installs when needed-AV racks, displays, control, access control panels, and CCTV cameras; prior hands-on with security cameras or access control is a plus. How you operate * Engage clients and end users clearly, translating tech into plain language. * Investigate root causes (hardware, programming, network, or user workflow) and capture findings in clean service reports with accurate time tracking. * Know when to escalate to engineering, while juggling multiple onsite calls efficiently.
