You follow a submission through every step to the decision at the end and ask whether the system read the document correctly, applied the right rule, and showed the reviewer the right information, and you know which checks belong in code and which need a person's judgment. You experiment, fail, learn, and repeat quickly. You would rather own an outcome than be handed a task. ## Description Your first project will likely have you testing the application that carries a federal agency's filer applications from submission to decision, built in Python on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Depending on the assignment, you may: * Test the application end to end, following each submission from intake through document processing, review, approval, and audit history, across the user interface, the application programming interfaces (APIs) behind it, and the database. * Test user functionality by hand before each release: write test cases from requirements and user stories, work through every screen, user permission, and exception path a reviewer will meet, and report defects a developer can act on at first read. * Automate the checks worth repeating: build and maintain end-to-end, API, and regression suites that run in the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline on every build. * Validate the data and the controls around it: confirm with SQL that what a user sees matches the source document and the database, and test role-based access, permissions, and integrations such as identity verification and notifications. You help prove that the system works for its users from submission to decision, in a regulated federal environment where accuracy and auditability are not optional., * End-to-end testing craft: following a business process through every screen, service, and record it touches, and finding where it breaks. * User functionality testing that turns a requirement into the cases that would expose it if it were wrong, and explores past the script when something looks off. * Automation that earns its keep: end-to-end, API, and regression suites that run on every build and that the team trusts. * Data validation across the user interface, API responses, database records, and source documents. * Defect reports with steps to reproduce, expected and actual results, evidence, and severity, and clear communication with developers, product owners, and client stakeholders about what they mean for the release. You adapt your development workflow as AI tools evolve, using them to help implement, test, and improve the components you own. You give the tools clear context, review and test their output, and remain accountable for the code you deliver., You will work alongside developers, engineers, data scientists, architects, and strategists, on work ranging from strategy to implementation. We support your development across assignments and clients through extensive onboarding, sponsored professional certifications such as the Data Management Capability Assessment Model (DCAM) and AWS technical certifications, and rotation across functions to expand your skills and perspective. The mission is real, the problems are hard, and you own what you ship.
