This position ensures the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of network resources while maintaining compliance with government security standards and regulatory requirements. The Network Engineer works closely with Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Application Development, Infrastructure, and Business Operations teams to support mission-critical systems serving retirees, active members, employers, and staff., Network Infrastructure Management * Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure including: * LAN/WAN environments * Software-defined networking (SDN) * Wireless networks * VPN connectivity * Data center networking * Cloud network connectivity * Configure and support: * Routers * Switches * Firewalls * Load balancers * Network access control systems * Monitor network performance and availability. * Perform capacity planning and infrastructure upgrades. * Maintain network diagrams, inventories, and technical documentation. Cybersecurity and Compliance * Implement and maintain network security controls. * Configure and monitor: * Firewalls * Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) * Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) * Network segmentation * Secure remote access solutions * Participate in vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts. * Support compliance with: * Government cybersecurity standards * State and local regulations * Audit requirements * Data privacy requirements * Assist with incident response and forensic investigations. Pension System Support * Support network infrastructure utilized by: * Pension administration systems * Member self-service portals * Employer reporting systems * Financial and actuarial applications * Call center platforms * Ensure high availability of systems processing: * Retirement benefits * Member contributions * Benefit payments * Financial reporting * Collaborate with vendors supporting pension administration software and third-party integrations. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity * Develop and maintain network disaster recovery procedures. * Participate in business continuity planning and testing. * Support secondary data centers and cloud recovery environments. * Ensure network resiliency and redundancy. Project Implementation * Participate in infrastructure modernization initiatives. * Support cloud migration and hybrid-cloud networking projects. * Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations. * Coordinate network-related activities during system upgrades and implementations.
