## About the Role

You will bring a blend of technical expertise, commercial awareness, and leadership capability.
Essential experience:

 * Strong commercial experience in Data Science and Machine Learning
 * Hands-on experience developing machine learning models using Python
 * Experience working with dbt and Apache Airflow
 * Knowledge of modern cloud-based data platforms and data architecture principles
 * Experience operationalising machine learning solutions in production environments
 * Strong understanding of data pipelines, production data layers, and scalable analytics infrastructure
 * Experience delivering end-to-end projects from problem definition through to implementation
 * Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
 * A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategy and execution
 * Experience mentoring, leading, or developing data professionals

Desirable experience:

 * Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery
 * AWS or Azure
 * A/B testing and experimentation frameworks
 * Recommendation engines, search optimisation, ranking, or personalisation solutions
 * Consumer-facing digital, e-commerce, marketplace, or travel businesses

Reporting directly to the CTO, you will have the autonomy to shape strategy, influence decision-making, and build a high-performing data function from the ground up.

The Role
As Lead Data Scientist, you will combine technical leadership with hands-on delivery in a role that offers significant ownership and visibility across the business.
Key responsibilities include:

 * Defining and executing the data science roadmap, aligning initiatives with business goals and measurable outcomes
 * Identifying opportunities to apply machine learning and advanced analytics to commercial challenges
 * Taking ownership of the organisation's modern cloud data platform and ensuring it remains scalable and reliable
 * Designing, developing, and deploying machine learning solutions into production
 * Delivering data science use cases such as recommendation systems, personalisation, optimisation, and ranking models
 * Working closely with senior stakeholders, including the CTO, to prioritise initiatives and translate business requirements into technical solutions
 * Driving projects from concept through to implementation and measurable business impact
 * Building and developing a data team, including mentoring existing talent and leading future hiring efforts
 * Establishing best practices across data science, machine learning, and platform development
