## About the Role

* 7+ years building backend systems that power a user-facing product
 * Hands-on with AI agent tooling: eval frameworks, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering
 * Fundamental understanding of complex data structures and algorithms
 * Strong in at least one of Perl, Go or Node.js, and happy to work across all three
 * Experience mentoring senior engineers
 * Good product acumen, you understand what users need and can make tradeoffs when necessary
 * Clear written and spoken communication, you work well in a distributed team
 * A track record of owning systems end to end

## Description

Looking for a senior or staff backend engineer to build AI-assisted answers into a search product used by a large audience. You will own this end to end, from first design to production, in a backend spanning Perl, Go and Node.js.

What you'll do

 * Build AI-assisted answers into search, from retrieval and prompting to evaluation and rollout
 * Own your work end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring and iteration
 * Work across backend services written in Perl, Go and Node.js
 * Set up and run eval frameworks so changes to models and prompts are measured, not guessed
 * Make product and technical tradeoffs and explain them clearly to the team
 * Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar on how the team builds
