The Department of State Lands manages the lands that help fund our public schools and protects the state's waterways and wetlands for the many benefits they provide. Our stewardship ensures vital natural and financial resources contribute to a vibrant, healthy Oregon now and forever. The DSL team makes a difference for Oregonians every day. As our GIS Data Steward, you will too. The GIS Analyst supports DSL's GIS program by providing spatial data, tools, and training that help field staff make informed decisions in environmental monitoring and land management. The role assists with research, forest operations, monitoring, HCP (Habitat Conservation Plan) compliance, and FMP (Forest Management Plan) requirements. Responsibilities include leading data collection, developing GIS standards, creating maps and field-data tools, training staff, and advising programs on GIS use. Knowledge of natural resources and environmental issues-including wetlands and waterways-is required. The analyst also supports agency GIS policy development and may coordinate larger project efforts. These positions will report directly to either our Salem, Bend, or North Bend offices. These are a full-time, permanent positions represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). What's in it for you? * Contribute to a new GIS program at the Department of State Lands. * Utilize your skills in both IT and GIS to support important initiatives while engaging the public, government agencies, and other interested parties., As our GIS Data Steward, you will have the opportunity to: * Lead groups of staff in collecting data, developing standard practices, and common GIS activities. * Act as the liaison between the GIS Program and other DSL staff, and provide input into establishing DSL GIS Policies, Procedures, and Practices that conform to applicable laws, rules, and the Oregon GIS Framework. * Assist staff in developing content such as maps, surveys, and dashboards * Assist staff with field data collection and data entry * Assist staff in training end users on content developed * Assist staff in providing programs with advice on how best to incorporate GIS tools in the work program staff do * Develop and maintain automated data processing tasks via ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) tools, database procedures, or programming languages like Python * Train DSL staff on best methods for using GIS products, * Complete questionnaire.
