You will design, build, and maintain the integrations that bring structured and unstructured patient data from health systems into Caret Health - and ensure that data is accurate, timely, and usable by the clinical, product, and AI teams that depend on it. Deep, reliable EHR connectivity is the foundation that makes our platform work: without it, there is no care coordination, no AI, and no outcomes. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. EHR integrations are notoriously complex - you will need deep familiarity with healthcare data standards, real-world EHR behavior, and the operational side of managing live integrations across multiple health system partners., EHR Connectivity * Design and implement integrations with EHR systems across the health systems we serve - including Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, athenahealth, and regional platforms directly or via integration providers. * Build and maintain data feeds for clinical events, patient demographics, encounter data, lab results, ADT notifications, and care gap information. * Own the full integration lifecycle: scoping, technical design, build, testing, go-live, and ongoing maintenance across all active health system connections. * Manage technical onboarding relationships with health system EHR and customer IT teams - navigating access, credentialing, and interface requirements to get integrations live. Data Standards and Transformation * Work fluently across healthcare data standards: FHIR R4, HL7 v2, C-CDA, and proprietary EHR formats - including real-world implementation quirks, not just the spec. * Build normalization and mapping layers that translate source data into Caret's internal data model, with clinical terminology mapping (SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, CPT, RxNorm). * Validate clinical data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before it reaches downstream systems; design defensively around the data quality issues endemic to real-world EHR data. * Partner with the Data Team to ensure EHR feeds land cleanly in the data lake and are structured for downstream analytics and AI use cases. AI & Platform Support * Work closely with the AI engineering team to ensure clinical data arriving from EHR sources is structured and enriched appropriately for model training, inference, and evaluation. * Support write-back workflows - pushing care plan documentation, outreach outcomes, and gap closure data back into EHR systems where supported. * Build and maintain APIs and data services that expose cleaned clinical data to internal platform teams and downstream consumers. Compliance & Reliability * Ensure all data exchange meets HIPAA requirements: BAA coverage, encryption in transit and at rest, access logging, and PHI minimization. * Build monitoring and alerting on live integrations so failures, feed degradations, or data quality regressions are caught and triaged quickly.. * Maintain thorough documentation on each integration: source system, data elements, mapping logic, known limitations, and escalation contacts. ## Related Videos - [Bitcoin SV: The Massively Scaled Blockchain to Meet Developer Needs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/20-bitcoin-sv-the-massively-scaled-blockchain-to-meet-developer-needs) - [Empowering Retail Through Applied Machine Learning](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/976-empowering-retail-through-applied-machine-learning) - [Why make use of an integration platform in today's software developments and infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/758-why-make-use-of-an-integration-platform-in-today-s-software-developments-and-infrastructure) - [The Data Mesh as the end of the Datalake as we know it](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/156-the-data-mesh-as-the-end-of-the-datalake-as-we-know-it) - [What if your HR software adapted to you, not the other way around?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100259-what-if-your-hr-software-adapted-to-you-not-the-other-way-around) - [Tracking vehicles at scale](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1999-tracking-vehicles-at-scale) ## Related Articles - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Résumé-Driven Development: How IT trends affect the job market for software developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/59-resume-driven-development-how-it-trends-affect-the-job-market-for-software-developers) - [How to Answer the Interview Question: “Why Do You Want to Be a Software Engineer?”](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/392-how-to-answer-the-interview-question-why-do-you-want-to-be-a-software-engineer) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Should senior developers refuse interview coding challenges?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/29-should-senior-developers-refuse-interview-coding-challenges) - [Why Upskilling And Reskilling is Important For Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/428-why-upskilling-and-reskilling-is-important-for-developers)
