Minimum Qualification High school diploma or equivalent. For positions in the Forensic Laboratory, one (1) year experience in general clerical work and computer operations. For positions in the Law Enforcement Records Bureau, one (1) year experience in general clerical work and computer operations. Employment Requirements Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy. In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire. Working Conditions Office setting, exposure to Visual Video Display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs. Subject to a national fingerprint-based record checks prior to assignment. Supplemental Information ## Description The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives. Why does the job exist? Part of a dynamic team supporting New Mexico law enforcement as a biometric quality assurance analyst in the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) unit. Analysis of criminal and applicant fingerprint cards to determine acceptable quality fingerprints to conclusively determine an Individual's identity; may reject poor quality submissions and provide training or reorientation to obtain clean and clear impressions. Classify fingerprints using the Henry and the National Crime Information Center fingerprint classification systems. Performs known-to-known comparisons from ten print cards and computer-generated candidate lists; examines and classifies fingerprint cards of arrested individuals; and processes electronic fingerprints and manual fingerprint cards. The incumbent conducts training on fingerprint and Live Scans to law enforcement and criminal Justice personnel, including fingerprint techniques and technical troubleshooting on the electronic fingerprinting system. How does it get done? * Provide quality assurance of criminal fingerprint card submissions taken from Law Enforcement Agencies using image processing and enhancement tools. * Perform analysis on fingerprint comparisons with latent prints and identify victims. Analysis Is performed by either visual inspection or system search and purge. * QC prints for verification and validation; produce certified fingerprint cards as requested by criminal justice agencies. * Conduct training for Law Enforcement Agencies, Detention Centers, and Civil Applicant Providers on how to take identifiable fingerprints and perform quality control of fingerprints taken. Training Is provided at the customers site location and statewide as well. Quarterly trainings are held to train law enforcement and civilians at the Law Enforcement Academy. Who are the customers?
