The role spans feature implementation, architectural ownership, and performance optimization, but none of these need to be at an extreme specialist level over the others. What matters most is that the engineer can own front-end features end-to-end, reason through design and performance tradeoffs, and ship high-quality production UI independently. UI Complexity (Very Critical) Experience with complex UI work is critical. This role heavily supports Chat and PPA experiences, where animations, transitions, motion, and custom UI components are core to the user experience. PPA experience is the single most important requirement, followed closely by Health Center experience. Candidates should have demonstrable experience building interactive, polished, UI-heavy mobile experiences. AI / PPA / Gen-AI Involvement The role is primarily focused on consuming APIs, not building AI or Gen-AI models. The engineer will integrate AI-powered and PPA services into iOS user experiences, ensuring smooth UI, correct data handling, and strong performance. Experience working with API-driven personalization or AI-assisted features is ideal, but deep AI expertise is not required. What We're Screening For * Strong Swift + iOS fundamentals * Proven ownership of UI-heavy features * Ability to reason through problems, not just execute tickets * Comfort working across PPA, Chat, and Help Center surfaces * Clear communication and collaboration with Product and Design What We're Not Optimizing For * Backend or AI model development * Candidates focused mainly on web, hybrid frameworks, or backend work * Candidates with a fundamental level of front end development Role Expectations & Skill Requirements * Platform: iOS * Language: Swift * Developer profile: * + Must be a pure iOS developer capable of building features end-to-end + Strong problem-solving ability prioritized over resume pedigree + Emphasis on intellectual rigor and engineering depth ("who's smarter," not just strongest background) UI / UX Complexity * Experience with complex UI is critical, particularly for: * + Animations + Transitions + Custom UI components * PPA experience: Extremely high priority * Health Center experience: Extremely high priority AI / PPA / Gen-AI Involvement ## Description iOS / Swift Expertise Expectations ## Related Videos - [Xcode development redefAIned](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100195-xcode-development-redefained) - [API Design - Getting Started](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/33-api-design-getting-started) - [Developing the Backend with Stefan Lingler, CTO at Shpock](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100360-developing-the-backend-with-stefan-lingler-cto-at-shpock) - [Rest API Antipatterns](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100208-rest-api-antipatterns) - [Harnessing Apple Intelligence: Live Coding with Swift for iOS](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1515-harnessing-apple-intelligence-live-coding-with-swift-for-ios) - [SwiftUI In Production](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/134-swiftui-in-production) ## Related Articles - [Navigating the AI Shift](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/629-navigating-the-ai-shift) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers) - [Dev Digest 118 - not a total recall](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/452-dev-digest-118-not-a-total-recall) - [Dev Digest 121 - AI goes offline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/456-dev-digest-121-ai-goes-offline) - [Dev Digest 132 - Binging WADFlix?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/473-dev-digest-132-binging-wadflix) - [What is Software Engineering in the Age of AI?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/640-what-is-software-engineering-in-the-age-of-ai)
